Sen. Krueger's Roundtable for Boomers and Seniors

This 5-part program provides an opportunity for neighbors to come together to explore life issues that are relevant across the age span. At each session you will hear from and engage with professionals who are knowledgeable on topics that are of concern to the growing population of older adults in New York City.

This year we will be looking at "Controversies in Aging" from various viewpoints. Sessions will be held on: Social Security; Aid in Dying in New York; The Court System & Older Adults; Medicare; and Public Policy & the Gray Lobby.

The program meets one morning per month in November, December, March, April, and May. Sessions are from 8:30am to 10:30am at Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, 331 East 70th St.

Session 5 – Transforming Public Policy: Making Government More Responsive to Older Adults will meet on Thursday, May 11th. This session will feature presentations by Lindsay Goldman of the New York Academy of Medicine and a second speaker to be announced.

Join your neighbors and public officials for garden tours, live music, and free cake and coffee. You can also view thousands of new plants in the Katharine Hepburn Garden--a major rejuvenation of the woodland sanctuary.

(Fun fact: Katharine Hepburn was the second cousin twice removed of  the husband of East Midtown Partnership president Rob Byrnes's third cousin once removed. It doesn't get much closer than that.)

Learn basic ballet steps and experience the joy of dancing in a class that combines ballet and exercise specifically for older adults. You’ll have fun as you dance and see for yourself the benefits of ballet for good balance, agility and grace. Wear comfortable clothes and be ready to have fun.  Come for the whole month or just drop in. No experience necessary.
 
About the instructor: Jennifer Grambs, trained in both ballet and exercise for older adults, will show you how ballet helps us feel fit, not only in class, but everyday as we travel the sidewalks of New York City.
  • Register in-person at the 1st Floor Circulation Desk.
  • Consent/release waiver must be signed in order to attend.

The CitiBike Street Skills Class, put on by Bike New York, touches on many of the topics addressed in our Street Skills Class (rules of the road, how to avoid common road hazards, basic traffic principles, where to ride on the road, how to safely change lanes, how to utilize bike infrastructure), but the focus is on how to navigate the Citi Bike system of docks and those now-ubiquitous blue bikes. Every participant will receive a free 24-hour Citi Bike pass, worth $9.95+tax, or $25 off the annual membership.
