Air Quality

The Upper East Side and Midtown Manhattan has some of the worst air quality in New York City, because of large residential buildings with boilers burning #4 and #6 heating oil. These boilers emit particulate matter 2.5, a toxin that causes respiratory illness amongst our young and aging population. In response to this problem, Dan fought for and secured the cooperation of the State’s environmental agency to create a $15 million fund to provide low interest loans to property owners to retrofit their boilers. These low interest loans will help property owners of rent stabilized buildings and other under-capitalized properties secure the necessary finances to purchase new boilers or retrofit their existing boilers, improving the air quality in New York City.
