From separating families at the border to allowing sexual abuse in immigration detention centers, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has committed a host of atrocities across the country.
Our communities in New York City have also been subject to I.C.E. raids. In 2020 alone, the agency arrests hundreds of New Yorkers.
I.C.E. agents often engage in illegal tactics to conduct raids, for instance ambushing immigrants at state courthouses or routinely impersonating NYPD officers. Our current Manhattan District Attorney has even cooperated with I.C.E., too, by notifying the agency of cases involving immigrants.
These are dirty, underhanded tactics that hurt immigrant communities and tear families apart.
We need I.C.E. out of our communities, and we need elected officials like the Manhattan District Attorney to stop cooperating with I.C.E.
