MANHATTAN - “The cruel and tragic shootings in the Atlanta area last night are a devastating reminder of the work we must all do to stand up against Asian and Asian American hate and violence. Asian American women have reported experiencing the highest frequency of hate and violence, partly fueled by the scapegoating of the AAPI community amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. This combustible mix of xenophobia, white supremacy, and an essentially unrestricted access to guns is what has led us to this unspeakable tragedy. I’m holding everyone affected by these immense losses in my heart and I stand in solidarity today and every day with Asian and Asian American communities.”
