MANHATTAN - Today, one year after the murder of George Floyd, my thoughts are with the entire Floyd family. We continue to grieve the loss of Mr. Floyd and so many other Black and brown Americans who were unjustly killed by police, 967 people total in just the past year. We cannot provide safety and achieve justice without finally addressing the deep inequities within our policing and criminal legal systems.

One year on, and just a few weeks after the trial of Derek Chauvin, enormous work remains. Nationally, we must pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, and in New York, we must continue fighting for a system that holds abusive officers accountable and provides safety for each and every community.

About Dan Quart: Dan Quart is one of NYC’s top pro bono attorneys and a New York State Assemblymember representing Manhattan’s East Side. A Washington Heights native who grew up in subsidized housing with working-class parents, Dan was raised by a public school teacher and a social worker who taught him the value of public service. Since graduating law school, he has dedicated his career to standing up for tenants' rights and advocating for criminal justice reform.

As Manhattan’s next District Attorney, Dan will fight to end mass incarceration, hold law enforcement accountable for police brutality, and ensure that all Manhattanites feel safe. Learn more at and
