MANHATTAN - This week, as more distressing stories of wrongful convictions came out and as candidate for Manhattan District Attorney Dan Quart continued his push with lawmakers in the Assembly and with the Innocence Project to pass the Challenging Wrongful Convictions Act, Quart released the following statement:

“New York ranks third in the nation in confirmed wrongful convictions. Yet, overturning a wrongful conviction remains near impossible – even if you are actually innocent. I’ve fought my entire career to get justice, compensation, and support for wrongfully convicted New Yorkers. As Manhattan District Attorney, I’ll continue this work, building out a fully independent conviction integrity unit to get justice for all wrongfully convicted.“

Quart has been endorsed by community leaders on wrongful convictions, including Jeffrey Deskovic and Derrick Hamilton. Deskovic also appeared in the campaign’s launch video earlier this year.
